Ahmadinejad's denial that the Holocaust ever happened is curiously symbolic. It was after WWII and the Holocaust that the world-wide process of reconciliation between the Christians and the Jews began and has made great headway since. We can say that because of the Holocaust reconciliation began. There was no corresponding reconciliation between the Muslims and Jews. It is as if the Holocaust never happened. Disturbing to ponder. I hesitate eschatological thinking here but it is suggestive. In any case it would be a moral crime to permit a second Holocaust. Left-winger intellectuals inability to make sound moral arguments does not guarantee moral withstanding unless we are prepared with sharpened moral reasoning and argumentation. |

How true that post. I had been thinking in the last week of just that, how America, the New Rome, stands WITH the Jews, not against them. Yet that "other Rome" of secularism, ends up standing against the Jews or not standing with them when they are in danger. Iran's hotheads want revenge for the Crusades, for their own inferiority, which is why the bomb is so important. For the completely masculine minded, it is the ultimate phallus. |
