You have all seen the headlines and the news stories already. Let's cut to the chase.

We won't close the border against possible terrorist infiltration, to control bacteria-laiden foods, to prevent the entry of illegal immigrants, to stop human trafficking of the more nefarious kind, to stop gun running or drug running or to stop the violence, so, will we close the border to stop people from being killed by an influenza virus?

Not until it is too late. That is the scenario.

When the Romans built a wall, if you climbed up the one side and crossed over the wall and came down the other side, the Romans would kill you. You had breached the wall in the numinous sense, the wall that existed in your own minds and spirits.

So, too, we cannot close the border because to do that, the wall has been breached. The ideal is forever rendered one to be aligned in a complementary fashion with other ideals and that ends its "Dali Virgin" idolization.

BBC is reporting on the severity of the virus in Mexico

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/talking_point/8018428.stm

I'm a specialist doctor in respiratory diseases and intensive care at the Mexican National Institute of Health. There is a severe emergency over the swine flu here. More and more patients are being admitted to the intensive care unit. Despite the heroic efforts of all staff (doctors, nurses, specialists, etc) patients continue to inevitably die. The truth is that anti-viral treatments and vaccines are not expected to have any effect, even at high doses. It is a great fear among the staff. The infection risk is very high among the doctors and health staff. There is a sense of chaos in the other hospitals and we do not know what to do. Staff are starting to leave and many are opting to retire or apply for holidays. The truth is that mortality is even higher than what is being reported by the authorities, at least in the hospital where I work it. It is killing three to four patients daily, and it has been going on for more than three weeks. It is a shame and there is great fear here. Increasingly younger patients aged 20 to 30 years are dying before our helpless eyes and there is great sadness among health professionals here.

Hey there Phil,

What a great contribution!  Did you see this movie?  It is so

interesting.  I got to and still do see a lot of movies because

of my field of work and grandchildren that most adults do not

see.  They are filled with humor only an adult can

 understand.

Like the Penguins, Shrek etc.

I've only read the book.  I'll ask my daughter if she has read the book or seen the movie.  She reads a lot and her teachers keep her busy with the not only the new stuff but the classics.  If she doesn't know about Animal Farm I'll order it from Netflix.  I know my wife will find it interesting too.   We do not subscribe to TV - kids watch wayyyy too much TV and it slows their learning and development.  All we ever watch on TV is what we buy, rent from Netflix, or download through the internet.

They've never heard of Animal Farm so it is queued on Netflix for delivery.  When she was little we got Blues Clues which is great for little kids and I would download foreign cartoons with english subtitles which motivated her to read so a lot of what she watched was participatory.
