Below are listed some medical/scientific statements and "folk" health "cures" /remedies. Choose which ones you believe are validated by established science and which are not. A nice prize will be awarded to the person who gets the most correct.

1)Chewing gum can help one recover from intestinal surgery faster.

2)Taking an antacid can prevent or improve asthma attacks.

3)Eating fish while pregnant can increase an infant's intelligence quotient.

4)Rubbing the ears when you wake up can significantly reducing coffee cravings.

5)Brushing teeth adequately reduces risk of heart attack or stroke.

6)Eating yogurt or honey will reduce risk of stomach ulcers.

7) Man made global warming has been scientifically linked to an explosion of scabies.

8) Infants show a strong preference for staring at what are considered "good looking" faces, more than average faces.

All contestants please remember that failure will be punished mercilessly.

I know a lot of these are true...to be honest I think they are all true...

Other than number 4, about which I don't have clue, only the man-made one would be false. I am guessing.

All are true except for 3 and 1, 4 and 7 I don't know about.

Well, I have good news. All of you are winners. That's because you all are now sightly more educated on these matters. Indeed Nocturne was quickest on the button so technically he would have won the linear temporal competition.

Believe it or not, all but #7 have been demonstrated by clinical studies to be true. Number seven was my little dig at algore.

There was even another one or two that I forgot. For instance : inserting one acupuncture needle at a precise spot on the ankle has been proven to significantly reduce or even eliminate...ah! I remember !- one type of adult incontinence.

I must confess that when I heard the initial information above phrased as a quiz, I failed miserably.

The one about man-made global warming will probably be claimed by the Chicken Little Faxion (sic) citing the above post as the "evidence".

Like algore, XYZ, Irks and others, I have an advanced degree in "opinionology"! Everybody needs to acknowledge that I know everygoddamnthing and bow down without questioning my logic or documentation...I am to be regarded as an infallible guru who is only to be obeyed, not held to account as a normal person.

Those who look to fantasy for inspiration about their world must be deaf, dumb and blind to the true wonders of the Natural Universe and of the miracle of Human Physiology. Those seeking mystery and awe need look no further than within their own corpus and psyche.

If they can find the same exceptional courage that all of you have demonstrated on this esoteric, politically-incorrect site, they will be far-better for it.

Here's some more unlikely items to spring on your friends.

True or False ?:

#1 - Napping reduces risk of fatal heart attacks significantly.

#2 - Women's desks, although cleaner in appearance, are far more infested with bacteria than men's. In fact there are on average, six times more bacteria on and in a woman's desk at the office, than a toilet seat in the latrine of that same office area.

#3 - Male perspiration boosts female sexual arousal.

#4 A- The single greatest cause of accidental death to pedestrians by automobiles, is poor visibility after dark.

#4 B - Any vehicle that contains at least one teen driving and another as passenger is 100% more likely to be involved in a fatal auto accident than driver/occupants of non-teenagers.

#5- The odds of any driver on public roads in the U.S., being under the influence of an illegal substance or over the legal limit for blood-alcohol, from 1:00 AM until dawn are one in five.

#6- Most people who commit suicide do so because they felt that they were not good-looking enough.

===========================================================

#1 - YAWN True. Researchers think it may have something to do with stress-reduction. People who nap three times a week during the workday, for at least a half hour are at least thirty-seven percent less likely to have a fatal miocardial infarction.

#2 - Bacteria at Work - Sorry ladies. True. Mostly found in leftover food kept in desks, on make-up kits, on telephones,  on Blackberrys and men's wallets. Why? Easy to guess - nutrients and warmth. Not many bacterial nutrients or warmth on a toilet seat after all. It feels cold to you and it feels cold to the bacteria too. BRRRR. That's why refrigerators keep food fresh. Any bacteria that may be left on the seat will probably die within a few minutes or hours - from dessication, starvation or oxidation. Disinfectant of what people touch on/in desks helps a lot, even in occassional applications. Be sure to spray Lysol heavily on that chocolate donut that you left in the drawer all day.

#3 -  Sweat and female attractionTrue. But don't let yourself get a might too strong just to impress the ladies. I know it sounds gross, but this is actually nothing new. Opposite-sex people with more genetically-compatible DNA (much less shared negative genes)  have been shown to react more positively to the natural scent of more-compatible partners. The nose knows. Heterosexual females react more-positively to the natural odor of heterosexual males than to het females, admittedly-homosexual females, homo-males, or to neutral control-scents. The body knows if the other is "really" for you and tries to tell you through scent.  Mind you, the scents are not stifling, but more the essence of natural trace-scents that linger on the flesh even when clean. We are after all, complex organic machines that almost constantly process and secrete a lot of active biochemicals, many of which are highly acidic (such as skin oil) and aromatic (catalytic/evaporative bio-molecules). That the subjective experience of scent and genuine DNA-compatibility are linked is astonishing but not beyond reasonable when you consider the potential influence of three or four billion years of organic evolution on Terra.

4A - Pedestrian death - True enough. CHP stats tell the sad story. Again, not unreasonable to assume that most pedestrian traffic fatalities are due to poor visibility after dark - the peds does not realise that they are invisible. Hey, look! I'm invisible!!! In this case, the obvious is also true. If one goes out after dark waltzing across busy intersections, wear a neon sign if you want to live through the night.

4B - Traffic deaths and teens - True again. CHP will verify this for ya' with official stats on their website. Again, not hard to understand how the chances of people dying in a car crash double as soon as two teenagers get into the car together and one of them drives. Parents, if you want your children to live to be adults, only let them drive with 80-year-olds for passengers! And turn that damn Alice-In-Chains  down! DO NOT MAKE ME PULL OVER, MISTER!

5. DUI after 1:00 AM - Again, CHP knows what many drunk drivers do not suspect that they know. If the police pulled over every car on the road between 1:00 AM and dawn, every fifth driver would probably be over the legal alcohol limit, or under the influence of some other type of verbotten thing. Of course, random stops of vehicles for no reason are illegal, unless of course it was during a holiday-season sobriety check or somethin'.

6. Suicide reason - False. I thought I'd throw one fake one in, so as not to disappoint my brother Helgi - who rightfully assumes that most everyone is lying to him most of the time. Most people do not commit suicide because they feel that they are not good-looking enough. They do it because they do not win a Grammy Award ! No, seriously the reasons are tragic and I will not darken the light of day about why. It is very, very sad but that was all I could come up with.
